Ostia, which is a district of Rome and the size of a provincial town, is particularly suitable for sport enthusiasts and lovers of outdoor activities, the sea and evergreen parks.
If sailing is your passion or you’re curious to try it, Ostia gives you the chance to attend nationally recognised schools with courses at every level - from beginners to advanced level - including all ages, from children to adults, not forgetting the disabled.
A sea location cannot be without suitable Beach volley and Beach tennis courts for the enjoyment of amateur games or watching national championship games.
Kite surf and Windsurf sports are also high on the agenda, since they have excellent schools in the most prestigious establishments in Ostia Lido as well as the right weather conditions to practice this sport.
Bicycle lovers can take advantage of the pathways through the evergreen macchia of the Pineta di Castel Fusano (Pine woods of Castel Fusano) or in the distinctive Porto Turistico, along the promenade or on particular routes such as the naturalistic-archaeological run along the banks of the Tiber from Ostia to Ostia Antica.
So we’ve mentioned water sports and lots of green areas… but there’s certainly more: Ostia can be proud of counting the Palazzetto F.I.L.P.J. among its sports facilities (The Italian Federation of Wrestling Weights and Judo) as a venue for competitions and national and international events as well as the Stadio della Stella Polare (Stella Polare Stadium) where great champions, enthusiasts of athletics and the local RUGBY squad once practised and still practise today.
The Ostiamare football team (D division) and the Stelle Marine women’s basket ball team (A1) are well known thanks to their excellent results.
